Page Layout tab in Excel

Page-layout-tab-in-excel: Click the Page Layout tab in Excel and you will find the buttons needed to adjust the margins, paper size, orientation, set print area, background, print titles and general appearance of your Excel worksheet. The Page Layout tab in Excel also allows you to change the page setup by launching the page setup dialog box.

There are following groups appear on a Page Layout table :

  1. Themes Group
  2. Page Setup Group
  3. Scale to Fit Group
  4. Sheet Option Group
  5. Arrange Group

Themes Group

Themes group contains the commands to set theme and editing a theme color, effect in the cell of a worksheet.

This option gives your document instant style and just the right personality.

Each theme uses a unique set of colors, fonts and effects to create a consistent look and feel.

Colors

By using this option, you can quickly change all the colors used in your document by picking a different color palette.

This will update the colors available to you in the color picker along with any theme color in your document. No matter what palette you chose your document will look perfectly coordinated.

Fonts

By using this option, you can quickly change the text in your document by picking a new Font set.

This is an easy way to change all of your text at once. For this to work, your text must be formatted using the ‘body’ and ‘heading’ fonts.

Effects

By using this option, you can quickly change the general look of objects in your documents.

Each option uses various borders and visual effects, such as shading and shadow, to give your objects a different look.

Page Setup Group

Page Setup group contains the commands to set the page property like margins, page size, orientation, set print area, background, set print title etc in the Excel workbook.

Margins

By using this option, you can set the margin sizes for the entire document or the current section.

You can use several commonly- used margin formats or customize your own.

Steps to set page margins :

  1. Go to Page Layout tab and click the Margin command in the Page Setup group.
  2. A drop down menu will appear. Click the predefined margin size you want.

The margin of the Excel workbook will be changed.

Using custom margins :

Excel allows you to customise the size of your margins in the Page Setup dialog box.

Steps to use custom margins :

  1. Go to Page Layout tab, click Margins. Select Custom Margins from the drop down menu.
  2. The Page Setup dialog box will appear. Adjust the value for each margin, then click OK.

The margins of the Excel file will be changed.

Orientation 

This option give your pages a portrait or landscape layout.

Steps to change page orientation :

  1. Go to Page Layout tab and click the Orientation command in the Page Setup group.
  2. A drop down menu will appear. Click either Portrait or Landscape to change the page orientation.

The page orientation of the Excel workbook will be changed.

Size 

By using this option, you can choose a paper size for your document.

Steps to change the Page Size :

  1. Go to Page Layout tab, then click the Size command in the Page Setup group.
  2. A drop down menu will appear. Select the desired Predefined Page Size.

The page size of the excel file will be changed.

Using custom page size :

Excel also allows you to customize the page size in the Page Setup dialog box.

Steps to use a custom page size :

  1. Go to Page Layout tab, click Size option in the Page Setup group.
  2. The Page Setup dialog box will appear. Adjust the values for Width and Height and then click OK.

The page size of the Excel file will be changed.

Print Area

By using this option, you can select an area on the sheet you did like to print. You can also clear the unwanted print area.

Breaks 

By using this option, you can add page break where you want the next page to begin in the printed copy.

Your page break will be inserted above to the left of your selection. You can also remove your page break if you want.

Background 

By using this option, you can choose a picture for your background and add some personality to your worksheet.

Print Titles

By using this option, you can choose Rows and columns you would like to repeat on each printable page such as those with headers and labels.

Scale to Fit Group 

Scale to Fit group contains scaling tools like Setting Height and Width and scaling values in Percentage etc.

By using this option, you can shrink the width of your printout to fit a certain number of pages.

Height

By using this option, you can shrink the height of your printout to fit a certain number of pages.

Scale

By using this option, you can stretch or shrink your printout to a percentage of it’s actual size.

Sheet Option Group

Sheet Option group contains the command or tools to show or hide Heading view and grid lines and allowing certain heading or the grid lines to be printed or not to make reading easier.

Grid Lines has two options :

  1. View Grid Lines : This option shows the lines between rows and columns to make the sheet easier to read.
  2. Print Grid Lines : This option print the lines between rows and columns to make the sheet easier to read.
Headings

Row headings are the row numbers to the side of the sheet. Column headings are the letters or numbers that appear above the columns on a sheet. Headings has two options :

  1. View Heading : This option shows column heading and row numbers.
  2. Print Heading : This option print column and row headings.

Arrange Group

Arrange group contains commands set the order of a certain entity in the worksheet and alignment and rotation of that etc.

Bring Forward

By using this option you can bring the selected object forward one level so that it’s hidden behind fewer objects. This command has two options :

  • Bring Forward
  • Bring to Front
Send Backward 

By using this option you can send the selected object backward one level so that it’s hidden behind fewer objects.This command has two options :

  • Send Backward
  • Send to Back
Selection Pane

By using this option, you can see a list of all your objects. This makes it easier to select objects, change their order, or change their visibility.

Alignment

By using this option, you can change the placement of your selected objects on the page.

This is great for aligning objects to the margins or the edge of the page. You can also align them relative to one another.

Group

By using this option, you can join objects together to move and format them as if they were a single object.

Rotate

By using this option, you can rotate or flip the selected object.
