The typist learns by practice. The typing speed and position improves with practice gradually the speed can be increased to 60 words per minute or higher depending upon the practice the rate of speed varies between individuals. Many online tutorials website and software are available to learn touch typing and many of them are free of cost.

Typing Ergonomics

A good ergonomic keyboard (wireless) helps the user to keep a natural hand poster and practice typing ergonomics, preventing computer injuries such as Carpal Tunnel (pain, numbness and tingling in the hand and arm)wrist pain etc. Typing  ergonomics provides the support for efficient and effective typewriting. They are important to attend the maintain accuracy and speed. Some of the factor included are as  given As below:-

Sitting posture

Sit straight while operating the computer keyboard and slightly bend your neck forward. Touch the lower portion of your back to the lower portion of the back rest of the chair. Touch both the feet to the floor.

Position of hands

Put your arms at level with the keyboard and palms down. Keep your wrists straight and hang your elbows normally.

Monitor Placement

Placement of matter to be Typed

Typing material should be placed to the left or right side of the keyboard free for every on a folder which has a sloping surface.

Positioning of fingers on the keyboard

It is important to use the keyboard in an efficient manner so that typing become easy. In the Home Row Approach, also called Horizontal Approach, all the eight fingers of both the hands rest on the home key during the keyboard operation. The fingers are placed in the correct way on the keyboard search at each letter is covered while typing. The thumb of the right hand is used to operate the Space bar.

Allocation of keys to fingers

The fingers are kept at rest on the second row and the user start typing process from the second room (Home Row)followed by the Third Row (Upper Row), First Row (Bottom Row) and The Fourth Row (Number Row). The fingers of both the hands have to operate the key allotted to them on each row. It should be kept in mind that each finger has to operate only the key allotted to it. Let us see the allocation now.

1. Allocation of keys to fingers on the second row(home row)

Place four fingers of each hand on Home keys. The remaining two keys ‘g’ and ‘h’ on these rows operated by the fore fingers (Index Finger) of left and right hand, respectively, e.g., asdfg:lkjh.

  • Do not look at the keyboard
  • Each letter should come beneath the other
  • Concentrate your mind on the tax
  • Typing should be done quite accurately with constant rhythm
  • Repeat this process until mystery over this exercise.
2. Allocation of keys to fingers on the Third Row (Upper Row)

Now let us learn how to learn the keys from home row to the above row .The learning begins with the reaches from ‘a’ to ‘q’ by left hand little finger and from ‘;’ to ‘p’ by right hand little finger. This is followed by the placement of the third fingers (Ring fingers) to the adjoining key ‘w’ and ‘o’ and  soon.

While typing on the upper row, finger son home row. Lift fingers of left hand and strike a upper row key one by one and type q w e r t (r and t are type by the same finger).

Now, again lift the fingers of right hand and strike a upper row key one after another and type p o i u y(u and y are typed by the same finger).

You should make sure that one finger should move at a time while other finger should remain on the home room making your hand stable.

Allocation of keys to finger on the First Row (Bottom Row)

Now let us learn how to operate keys on the First row. Keys Z, X, C, V, B, N, M, Comma, Full stop and’/’sign are located on this row. While type writing on the First Row, little finger of left hand is not used, i.e.,no key is assigned to it.So, far from the Home Row, turn down words the Ring Finger of left hand and strike ki ‘Z’. Similarly, type keys ‘x’ and ‘C’ with middle and four finger respectively type., M and with little ring middle and fore finger of right hand, respectively, which will look like z x c., m n.Alphabets ‘V’ and ‘b’ are to be tied with four finger of left hand right hand, respectively.

Allocation of key to fingers on the fourth row number row

in this Rock type 123 with little ring and Middle nine fingers of the left hand respectively and 4 and 5 with the index finger similarly type 098 with little ring and middle finger of right hand destructively 7 and 6 with index fingers(FOREFINGER).

Using Numeric Keypad

numeric data entry is equally important while typing the numeric keypad has 4 column and 5 Pro the row which has 4 5 6 and Plus is called home row this is the row which is initially attracted by a touch typist on a numeric keypad the number 5 is the guide ki it has as Mall raised tangible mark which act as a guide for the touch typist in the placement of finger on other keys zero is to be pressed by the right hand thumbs.
